Happy Halloween!

Our reading and math stations were Halloween-themed last week.

Reading Stations
Matching uppercase and lowercase letters
Hearing and writing the beginning letter sounds in words
Cutting and gluing pictures to their letter sound
Scavenger hunt around the room for P words

Math Stations
Counting and writing the candy corn amount
Cutting and gluing pumpkins from smallest to biggest
Putting teen numbers in order from 11-20
Finishing patterns
Measuring length with connecting cubes

Extra Stations
I started pulling out extra stations that students can play/work with when they finish their reading and math tubs. Here's what they go to do...
Clipping beginning letter sounds

Letter matching
ABC puzzles
We have great teamwork in our room!

Writing
We are continuing to write in our writing notebooks. They are slowly building their confidence as writers. It can be very daunting for kindergartners to try writing a word on their own--many of them want to have you tell them how to spell it rather than them trying on their own. However, I am teaching them how to slowly sound out a word and to write down all of the sounds that they hear. Last week, we finished the sentence "I can _____." Encourage your child's expressive writing at home! It is not about correctly spelling words at this stage.
I can play Legos.
I can run.
I can do a front flip.
I can pump on the swings.
I can yell.
I can go on the monkey bars.
Words Sorts
We started word sorts and how to cut and sort them into separate sections.

The class was given a word sorts notebook to glue their pieces into. They will have a new word sort each week.

Graphs
We made two different graphs; the first one showed our favorite dessert.

The second graph was about pumpkins. I taped different jack-o-lantern pictures onto each students' backs and the class walked around, graphing the jack-o-lanterns they saw onto a blank graph.
Here's my graph example. Students helped me fill in the numbers for each jack-o-lantern.

We had a very eventful Harvest Party on Friday! It was hard to get photos since I was busy running mini pumpkin painting in my room. It was fun seeing all of the parents come to this event. Thank you if you were able to come... I love seeing families come together! :)

The class received our class t-shirts! They turned out so cute. Feel free to have your child wear their shirt at any time--we will be wearing these shirts for field trips and Blue and Gold Days.
