You can't catch me...

With it being December, I love to revolve this month around holiday themes. This week was all about  the GINGERBREAD MAN! We kicked off Monday by reading the traditional tale aloud then discussed the characters, setting, and ending.

I have alternate versions of the Gingerbread Man story and read The Gingerbread Bear. We compared it with the Gingerbread Man book and how they were the same and different.

Our reading and math stations all have a gingerbread/candy theme.

KNOCK KNOCK
We had a special delivery on Monday from.... Santa and the Elves!!!!!!!
The package happened to be Elf on the Shelf! It sounds like many of the kindergarteners have their own Elf at home, but did you know that they also come to schools to cause mischief and check up on students to see if they're being naughty or nice? We voted on a name for our Elf and decided on Rudolph.

He has been found in so many goofy spots this week!
Being silly with my sticker bin
Writing a secret message from Santa
Hanging high!
Taking a little nap
Reading a holiday story to our stuffed animals
BRAVO
We have a music program at Jeffers Pond called BRAVO where a volunteer comes in and teaches the class about different musical instruments and compositions.
Comparing how long a french horn tubes are if you were to straighten them out
Learning about an orchestra and what a conductor does
Mrs. A discussed different brass instruments and even brought in a trombone!

I introduced the blends chart to students. We spell it out, make the sound, then say the picture shown. For example, "B-L, blllllll bllllllll, block."  Blends are where 2 letters blend together to make a sound. They are fairly easy to pronounce except dr and tr make different sounds than the letter featured. When it comes to writing blends in words, many times students will write the first letter sound, but forget the second letter. For example, when writing the word frog, they will write "fog." The R blends in with the F and it sometimes gets forgotten. We will continue to practice our blends chart in school. Please start practicing blends in your child's reading folder.

I have been under the weather and absent from school two days this week. I hope to be back to 100% by Monday. Time to rest up!
My arsenal :)
