We've been reading with buddies and learning different ways we can talk about our books with each other. Buddies can ask each other questions about the books we are reading. They can retell the adventures and information in their fiction and nonfiction books. They can also try hard to get each other excited about their books and look at the illustrations to help set up conversations. Do you remember the show Reading Rainbow? There was a bit in the show where different kids spoke about a book they read and really enjoyed. We've been practicing book talks of our own in class and getting one another excited about our books!
Here we are having a book talk. Olivia J. is asking Gavin S. questions about the book he read. Questions included: What was it about? Who was in it? What was your favorite part?
Toadally Terrific Lunch
Four students, Wayne, Evan, Gavin L., and Olivia C., got to join me for lunch in the classroom Tuesday afternoon! We are celebrating how we are all "Toadally Terrific" at school.
Golden Item Award
Our class was awarded the Golden Recorder from Music class on Wednesday. Way to go Ms. Joachim's class! We work hard at showing safety, responsibility, and respect during specialist time.
SMART Room
We have new stations set up in the SMART room this month.
Vision: Tracing dinosaurs
Fine motor: Using tweezers to pick up dinosaurs
Gross body movement: Pencil roll down hill
Criss cross on balance beam (harder than it looks!)
Alligator crawling in the middle of the mat
Vision: Peg boards. Move the peg around without moving or turning your head
Hopscotch on numbers and vowels
We measured our feet on Friday and turned our footprints into snowmen. We will measure how long our snowmen are with connecting cubes on Monday.
During Martin Luther King Jr. week, we made our own self portraits. We glued our portraits onto different colored crayons and made it into a big class poster. I emphasized how everyone looks different and that we are (in a sense) like a box of crayons--full of colors! The kids loved it.
I've been getting a lot of requests from students to take pictures of the creations they make during playtime. So here you go!
Can you say WOW??? What a difference twenty years can make. Most of the things I learned in kindergarten are what I now expect students to know BEFORE they come into school. Crazy crazy crazy!!!!!!
