Hip Hip Hooray...

...It's the 100th Day of School!

I can't believe we've hit the 100 mark. Where did the time go?????? The class has been counting down the days all month and now the big day is finally upon us.

Students were greeted in the morning by a giant sign exclaiming, "Ms. Joachim's class is 100 days SMARTER!" Their reactions were priceless. They felt SO special.

We colored, cut out, and wore 100th day crowns.

At our morning meeting, we shared what we wish we had 100 things of...(answers varied from stuffed animals to kittens to lollipops) as well as what we do NOT want to have 100 things of (bugs, spiders, worms).

There is an app through Apple that you can download for free called Aging Booth. I took photos of each child and the app "ages" them through the years. I revealed everyone's "grandma/grandpa" look on the Smartboard and oh my goodness, I don't think I've ever seen them laugh so hard. I reminded the class that this is only pretend and that it won't really be how they look (or maybe it will...hehe). We discussed how when people get older, hair changes to a grayish white color and skin may start to get wrinkles or sag. I printed off everyone's 100 year old photo and each student made an All About Me When I'm 100 poster. Kindergartners had to think about their future and how they would communicate, travel, and live; what they would be famous for; and what they would do for fun.
Brainstorming different ideas at the carpet

Another 100th day of school activity we did was where I gave students the numbers 1-0-0 and they had to glue them anywhere on a blank sheet of paper and transform it into a picture. Surprisingly, this was difficult for some because they wanted to glue it as 100. I emphasized how they can position and rotate the 1 and 0s any way they'd like and to use their imagination to create something beyond just the number 100.
My 100 is a face.
My 100 is a peregrine falcon.
My 100 is a monster truck.
My 100 is a flower.

For snack, we picked out 10 pieces of 10 different items. Thank you to those families who donated!
To make sure they had 10 of each item, they sorted it on this organizer.
10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 100!
The day flew by with all the hustle and bustle, and before we knew it, the 100th day was over. I hope the day was unforgettable to your child! They have accomplished so much at this point and I am excited to see what the rest of the year will bring.
