The Month of LOVE
During the month of February, we have been talking a lot about love and have enjoyed listening to books that revolve around Valentine's Day. One of the books we read is called Love, Splat. It's about this black cat named Splat who is trying to give a special valentine to a girl cat he likes, but is competing with another cat who is a bully. In the end, his special cat friend takes his valentine and gives him a valentine in return. We made our own Splat the Cats and wrote about times when we felt loved.

We made Valentine's Day cards for you! I hope you enjoyed it and will treasure it in years to come. Everyone worked so hard on their card.
Valentine's Day
We kicked off Valentine's Day with an all-school meeting in the gym. It was also Red and Pink Day. Because February is "I Love to Read" month, we had DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read). All of the grades brought books to the gym and read for 15 minutes. It was awesome seeing all of the students read together as an school school.
It was also Dr. Warner's 40th birthday on Friday so we surprised her with balloons and sang Happy Birthday to her. As a grade level, all of the kindergarten classes wrote and illustrated a book called 40 Reasons Why We Love Dr. Warner and gave it to her later on in the day. She loved it!
We handed our our valentines to each other shortly after the all school morning meeting. If you haven't seen organized chaos, come during Valentine's Day. It was definitely bustling with excitement and activity!
We then sorted our valentine cards from our candy.
And taped our valentine cards into a special Valentine's Day book.
Once our valentines were taped inside, we wrote all of the different sight words we saw!
Later in the afternoon, we watched a special Valentine's Day movie.
We decorated sugar cookies with frosting and sprinkles during snack time. Thank you to those of you who donated. The kids LOVED this activity. (Me on the other hand could have used a nap after feeding them pure sugar!!!!!)
