Field Trip Excitement!

What a FUN and wild field trip! We watched Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse put on by both children and adult actors/actresses at Stages Theater in Hopkins. I was so amazed by the kid actors--so much enthusiasm and passion! It was a very entertaining play. I was halfway through with getting photos of everyone when I was told there is no photographing allowed in the theater--rats! Next field trip I'll be able to capture more moments. :)

A BIG THANK YOU TO MY PARENT VOLUNTEERS KASIA AND SARA! While field trips are fun, they can also be stressful; students tend to be a little more active and loud being that it is out of our normal school day routine. I really appreciated having more eyes and hands to help me out with the class!
After effect (I just had to take a pic!)

We started reading and math stations this week! I am very excited about stations because it focuses on many important kindergarten skills. During this time, I also work with individual students at my table and challenge them on whatever it is that they need academically. (Some of my pictures uploaded sideways so you may have to tilt your head)

MATH STATIONS
Roll a shape and trace
Identifying letters vs. numbers
Number recognition and counting
Counting in ten frames and writing numbers
Drawing shapes
READING STATIONS
Roll a letter
Spin a letter
Listening and writing beginning sounds in words
Reading and writing the sight word see
Reading and writing color words
Poetry Journal Entries
K for Kite
L for Lion
M for Mouse
N for Numbers
SMART ROOM STATIONS
Pencil roll: They have to keep their legs and arms straight the whole time while they roll
Alligator crawl: Kids use opposite arms and legs as they crawl on their bellies.
Monkey bars: This is the students' favorite!
Fine Motor: Buttoning, tying laces, zipping, buckling
Balance beam: Touch toes to heel and keep eyes on the big googly eyes the whole time.
Do you see the eyes? (on the window)
Trampoline: As they hop, they say the letters and letter sounds on the posters
Spinners: Spin 15 times one way, put hands on head and count to 15, then spin other way, put hands on head and count to 15 (the reason for hands on head is that it helps stop the dizziness)
Tunnel: Crawl through the tunnel on hands and knees while keeping tunnel still
In Science, we've been discussing what science is and how we can be scientists in the classroom. Students received a very special science journal and scientist pencil (it's just a mechanical pencil but they think it is such a big deal!).
We drew ourselves as scientists, complete with lab coats, goggles, and potions.
We went on a "Listening Walk" outside the school and used our sense of hearing to listen to all the sounds. Our outdoor resources at Jeffers Pond are absolutely amazing! We have a neat rock sitting area, crossing bridge, the pond, gazebo, and walking paths. We will definitely be utilizing these areas. It is so refreshing to learn outside of the classroom. Very hands-on!

We have 3 different writing books that we'll be using each month. (1) An ABC writing book (2) Self portrait book (3) Things I Love and Care About book. We started the first 2 books; I'll be showing these to you during conferences next month!

Self portrait book
ABC writing book (both capital and lowercase letters)
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend! See you for our Pizza Party on Thursday this week. Yay!
