The first week in March was all about the famous children's book author and illustrator Dr. Seuss. One of his books is Wacky Wednesday so naturally, on Wednesday before the class arrived, I shook things up a bit.
Pete the Cat got a hold of Liz's hat!
Celebrity of the Week posters flipped around.
Stuffed animal friends are enjoying a snack. Check out Larry the prairie dog's bib!
Chairs every which way!
Locker names are all out of whack.
ABC letters are out of order.
Tables wearing boots?!
Garbage can pyramid
Goofy shapes
Out of order notebook bins
In science, we made oobleck, which comes from a Dr. Seuss book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck. The class made predictions on what they think would happen when you mix baking powder, water, and green food coloring together.
Their reactions were priceless!
After playing around with the oobleck (and having a massive clean-up of the room, thanks to the help of my students!), we wrote our observations of how it looked, felt, and smelled.
Wozupi Field Trip
Last Monday, we took a trip to the farm to see how sap gets turned into maple syrup.
First we played a true or false game with our third grade buddies.
Next, we looked at photographs of the maple syrup making process and worked together to put them in order.
Then we got to try the different processes of sap. The first sap had 3% sugar, the second sap was 50% sugar, and the last sap was over 60%.
Everyone got to check out the boiling room and see how the sap is boiled into syrup. Very hot room!
