The class and I had a wonderful field trip to Wazupi Farms last Wednesday. Fortunately, the rain held off and it was not the least bit muddy. We had a very warm, windy day to explore. We learned how to make maple candy, visited the Sugar Shack where they boil sap into maple syrup, tasted the different stages in making maple syrup, and got to pet goats and chickens.
Ms. Angelica is demonstrating how to make maple candy.
Once the syrup turns an amber brown, it is ready to be poured into molds.
We got to take home a bag of maple candy!
Trent and the class are in the Sugar Shack learning where the sap goes to be made into syrup.
The sap boils up to 219 degrees and eventually turns into syrup.
The bottom sample is sap (2-3% sugar), the middle is half boiled sap (30% sugar) and the top is syrup (60-70% sugar).
The goats were a bit shy at first...
But they eventually warmed up to us and wanted to get petted!
One of the chickens got loose from the coop so one of the workers scooped him up.
He let us pet the chicken! How cool is that?
We fed the chickens Cheerios.
Our third grade buddies started their big MCA state tests this month so to wish them well, we wrote and colored good luck cards. Then we personally delivered them to Mrs. Trabing's class.
The third graders felt so special! I hope our words of encouragement go a long way with them.
Mrs. Anderson visited us on Monday for BRAVO and taught us about string instruments.
She brought in a keyboard and we each got to go up and play a few keys.
After we came back from spring break, Mrs. Cotnoir (Sophie's mom) has come into our classroom to teach us about business for Junior Achievement. Last week's lesson was about coin names and their worth.

Egg Clues
It was fun trying to guess what was inside each student's plastic eggs. It was even more fun to read their clues and see how they described their object.

Hope you all had a nice Easter weekend, if you celebrate! This upcoming week will be a fast one with progress reports and conferences around the corner. Can't wait to talk with everyone about their child's successes.
